Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to formally request a change of my final grade in PSYC 100 to a Credit (CR) notation on my transcript for the 2023/2024 academic year due to extenuating circumstances that significantly affected my ability to perform at my usual academic standard.
During the PSYC 100 exam period, I was diagnosed with mononucleosis, which resulted in prolonged illness, severe fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, ultimately requiring me to defer my exam. This disruption in my academic schedule created significant stress and made it challenging to maintain my usual level of preparation. Additionally, throughout this same period, my grandfather was critically ill, and I was balancing my academic responsibilities with the emotional strain of his declining health. His passing at the end of June marked the culmination of an already difficult time, which had taken a considerable toll on my well-being.
This request is particularly significant as I intend to apply to law school, where my academic record will be a key component of my application. Additionally, in my third year, I will be participating in a full-year exchange program where courses will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. Given that my GPA will remain unchanged during that year, my current transcript will be the primary reflection of my academic performance when I apply to law school. A CR notation for PSYC 100 would help ensure that my transcript accurately represents my academic capabilities and is not disproportionately impacted by the extraordinary circumstances I faced during the exam period.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Juliana Parker-Hughes
