Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean,

I am writing to formally petition to drop EMPR 200 from my academic record for the Winter 2025 term due to extenuating personal circumstances that have significantly impacted my academic performance. Over the course of this semester, I experienced a serious health crisis that impaired my ability to fully engage with and complete the course. These health concerns are verified through my academic accommodations registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS).

Although I made every effort to remain academically involved, my condition created consistent obstacles that hindered my capacity to keep up with the course content, participate in simulation-based activities, and produce reflective written work to the best of my ability. These challenges persisted throughout the term, preventing me from immersing myself in the learning process and meeting the standards I hold myself to as a student.

The nature of my health issues was beyond my control and affected my focus, energy levels, and mental stamina. These symptoms were particularly disruptive during key assignments and deadlines in EMPR 200, making it difficult to adequately process course material and apply critical thinking in simulation reflections and class engagement. Despite following the recommendations provided by QSAS and consulting with healthcare professionals throughout the term, I was unable to fully overcome these challenges in time to perform to my potential in this course.

Importantly, this course is not required for the completion of my degree. Given that I do not need the EMPR 200 credit for graduation, and in light of the verifiable health concerns that impaired my academic performance, I respectfully request to drop the course from my record for this term.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I am happy to provide any further documentation or clarification as needed.

Warm regards,
Abbey Giancoulas (20268504)
