Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request to receive a Credit (CR) instead of a letter grade for MATH 110. I am a fourth-year student, and under the current circumstances, I believe a letter grade would not fairly reflect my efforts or the conditions under which this course was delivered.
Throughout the academic year, there have been significant disruptions that have severely impacted my ability to succeed in this course. MATH 110 was taught by a different professor in the first semester, but the final exam, which is worth 30% of the final grade, is cumulative for the entire year. The current instructor has made no adjustments to the final exam despite these changes in instruction and has only offered two hours of office hours prior to the exam. In addition, he has not posted any lecture content on OnQ, making it impossible for students who are unable to attend in person to access the material.
Moreover, the TA for the course is on strike and the Math Help Centre has been closed, leaving us without critical academic support. I reached out to the professor via email to ask about the structure and expectations for the final exam, but I have not received a response.
Beyond the academic barriers, I feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe attending the in-person final exam. There have been incidents of students being harassed while attempting to write their exams, and there is no alternative exam option provided. As a result, I feel forced into a situation that compromises both my well-being and academic performance.
Given the lack of support, communication, and accommodation throughout the course, I believe that receiving a letter grade under these circumstances would be unfair and not reflective of my true abilities or efforts. As a graduating student, I respectfully request that I be granted a Credit (CR) designation for MATH 110.
