Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Faculty of Arts and Science Petition Committee,

I am writing to respectfully request a late course drop for PSYC 100 – Principles of Psychology. I am a student in the Concurrent Education (ConEd) program, and this course is a required component of my degree. Unfortunately, due to extenuating personal and academic circumstances this term, I was not able to complete the course successfully, and I am seeking to remove it from my academic record to avoid long-term impact on my GPA and degree progress.

Throughout the winter term, I experienced ongoing psychological distress, including anxiety and sleep disruption, which intensified as the final exam approached. I struggled to focus, retain information, and manage my stress. Compounding this was the academic disruption caused by the strike and protest activity during the term, which limited my access to TA support and left me feeling unprepared and isolated in the lead-up to the final exam.

Despite these difficulties, I tried my best to keep up with course material and prepare on my own. However, by the time of the final exam, my mental state had deteriorated, and I was unable to perform to the best of my abilities. After the exam, I continued to experience lingering anxiety and distress, knowing that the result would not reflect my true potential or commitment to the course.

I want to emphasize that I take full responsibility for my academic progress. I am not trying to avoid the consequences of poor performance, but rather to request compassion under circumstances that were beyond my control. I fully intend to retake PSYC 100 in the upcoming term and am committed to successfully completing it.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my request.

Sincerely,
Ching Tung
