Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

I am appealing to the faculty to change my course status in DEVS 420 to incomplete, in order for my instructor to input my final grade.

I had taken DEVS 420 in the second term of my third year while I was in exchange in India. During my exchange, I had anxiety towards finding my direction both personally and professional, leading me to decide not to return to Queen¿¿s.
The instructor did not set deadlines for the coursework beyond submission after returning to school in the fall. Since I did not return and the final grade was not submitted within 6 months, SOLUS automatically assigned me a failure grade. When I initially checked my SOLUS in winter 2015, I did not see the course code in my academic report and assumed that the course had been removed. I noticed only recently as I am returning to Queen¿¿s in the fall. I have been in contact with the instructor whom is still willing to accept my assignments and give me a final grade, should my appeal be approved.

For my future plan, my gap year has helped me to realize the importance of my education, and integrity. I am returning to Queen¿¿s with anticipation of attending law school in the future. I have the potential to be eligible for honours with distinction should my DEVS 420 grade be revised, and I maintain my academic standing in my final year at Queen¿¿s.
