Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully petition for consideration regarding my academic performance during Winter 2025. Specifically, I experienced extenuating circumstances beyond my control due to the PSAC strike, which significantly disrupted the regular delivery of course materials and assessments.

The PSAC strike led to the cancellation of essential labs and tutorials, which are integral components of my course. These sessions provided not only direct instruction but also valuable opportunities to ask questions, receive feedback, and reinforce lecture material through hands-on practice. The sudden removal of these supports compromised my ability to fully grasp course content, hands on experience, and prepare effectively for assessments.

Additionally, the format of the final examination was changed on short notice to adapt to the strike conditions. The exams was originally designed to assess knowledge through long-answer, written responses were changed to a fully multiple-choice format on short notice. I had prepared extensively for long-answer assessments, which focus on critical thinking, detailed explanations, and problem-solving. The sudden transition to multiple-choice questions, which require different test-taking strategies and often emphasize speed over depth, negatively impacted my ability to demonstrate the knowledge I had acquired throughout the course.

Throughout this period, I made every effort to adapt by independently reviewing material and seeking alternative resources. However, the absence of structured tutorials, lab sessions, and last minute examination changes, placed me at a significant disadvantage compared to a normal academic term.
