Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am requesting a formal review of my graded coursework in ARTH 121 on the grounds that my final course grade of D+ does not accurately reflect my demonstrated academic performance and mastery of the subject matter, due to medically-documented accommodations that were not properly considered.

Throughout the term, I consistently earned A and B grades on written assignments and assessments, indicating strong understanding and engagement with the course material. Unfortunately, due to a documented medical condition covered by formal academic accommodations, I was unable to attend tutorials during a significant portion of the semester.

Despite proactively reaching out to my Teaching Assistant, Brian, to request alternative work to make up for the missed tutorials, I was informed that no supplemental work could be provided. I complied with the process of initiating communication to the best of my ability under difficult personal circumstances and trusted that my accommodations would protect me from undue academic penalty.

In contrast with my experiences in other courses, where instructors provided reasonable flexibility, ARTH 121 was the only course in which no alternative evaluation was offered. As a result, the absence from tutorials, caused by medically-documented and officially-recognized circumstances, disproportionately and unjustly impacted my final grade.

Because participation-based grades are not eligible for formal review, I am not contesting marks purely for tutorial attendance. Rather, I request a formal review of my submitted, reviewable coursework (assignments, tests, exams) that demonstrates my academic achievement. I respectfully request that this body consider my documented academic performance and accommodations in the reassessment.

I firmly believe that, based on my submitted work and documented efforts to meet course requirements under difficult circumstances, my grade merits reconsideration.

Thank you very much for your time and careful consideration of this petition.

Sincerely,
Isidora Vukadinovic
