2025.5.2
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally petition for a CR (Credit) grade in CISC 223 – Software Specifications, which I took in the Winter 2025 term.
Starting on February 3, 2025, I began experiencing significant psychological stress, particularly related to academic pressure and uncertainty about my future academic path. Since that time, I have been attending weekly counseling sessions at the university’s Wellness Centre, continuing until the end of the term. One major source of anxiety was my strong desire to transfer into a Computing Major with a Minor in Music or COMU during the upcoming plan selection process. Given my past need to retake some courses, I became increasingly anxious about whether my Winter 2025 performance—particularly in CISC 223 —would meet the GPA requirements for a successful plan change, and whether a low grade might result in delayed graduation.
In addition to these personal challenges, I also struggled with the structure of the CISC 223 course. The instructional materials provided were limited, and the course lacked practice problems or review exercises that would have supported my preparation for assessments. During the final stages of the course, I reached out to the instructor and TA for help but unfortunately did not receive the assistance I needed in time. As a result, I was not adequately prepared for the final exam despite my efforts to seek support.
I plan to retake CISC 223 in a future term in order to meet the prerequisites for upper-year Computing courses. However, I am requesting a CR grade for the Winter 2025 attempt to ensure that my GPA is not negatively affected and that I can meet the GPA threshold required for a plan change. I believe this request reflects both the extenuating circumstances I experienced and my continued commitment to academic improvement.
Thank you very much for considering my petition. I would be happy to provide any further information or documentation if needed.
Sincerely,
Nuo Xu
