Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing to ask for the removal of the grade (F) I received in MATH111 during my first year. When I initially took MATH111, I was overwhelmed by the transition to university and managing a heavy course load. Unfortunately, I was not in the right mindset to perform well academically, which significantly impacted my performance in this particular course.

I had planned to retake MATH111 to improve my grade; however, after contacting the Department of Mathematics via email, they informed me that the course is no longer offered and recommended that I submit a petition as the only viable solution. As an alternative, I successfully completed MATH112, demonstrating my competence and commitment to my academic progress. Despite my efforts, the F grade from MATH111, a full-year course worth 6.0 credits, continues to have a heavy negative impact on my GPA, severely affecting my eligibility to switch into the major plan that aligns with my academic and career goals in the upcoming plan change period.

Given that retaking MATH111 is no longer an option, and considering my successful completion of the subsequent course, MATH112, I kindly request that my situation be reviewed, and that the failing grade in MATH111 be removed from my academic record. This adjustment would substantially aid in accurately reflecting my academic capabilities and improving my GPA, thereby enabling me to pursue my desired academic pathway.

I appreciate your time and consideration regarding this matter and am available to provide further documentation or discuss this petition in more detail.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Sincerely,
Mohanad Yafeai
