Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally petition for a CR grade for STAT 263 in the Winter 2025 term. I believe this is a reasonable academic accommodation in light of extenuating circumstances beyond my control, specifically the teaching a TA strike that significantly disrupted course delivery and support.
The strike, which lasted from March to almost the end of the winter term, greatly limited access to feedback, and grading support. This was especially impactful for a course like STAT 263, which really relies on problem-solving practice and clarification of complex concepts, services that would typically be provided by TAs. As a student who depends on this interactive support to reinforce lecture material and prepare for evaluations, I found myself at a considerable disadvantage during the affected period.
The lack of TA support contributed to my underperformance on key assessments, particularly the final exam. Despite these challenges, I remained engaged with the course content, attended lectures regularly, and sought help directly from the professor whenever possible, including meeting in person after class to discuss the difficulties I was experiencing. However, the disruption in course structure and assistance still had a lasting impact on my ability to succeed to my full potential.
I believe that the TA strike constitutes a significant extenuating circumstance that directly affected my academic performance, through no fault of my own. Granting a CR grade would allow me to progress in my academic program without a permanent penalty on my transcript for a situation that was largely out of my control.
