Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to petition for a credit standing in Professor Jordan Desmond’s course ([Course Name/Code]) due to extenuating circumstances arising from the teaching strike between March 10 and April 17, 2025. This unforeseen disruption substantially impacted my ability to demonstrate my true academic capabilities.

The strike resulted in significant changes to the evaluation structure, notably eliminating the final take-home exam originally scheduled for the course. With the cancellation of this final assessment, the grade distribution was heavily adjusted, placing greater weight on earlier assignments—specifically increasing the second assignment to 55%. This alteration has disproportionately impacted my final grade, as it reflects performance during a period disrupted by uncertainty and irregular academic conditions.

Importantly, the absence of the final exam also meant I lost the critical opportunity to consolidate my learning, demonstrate improvement, and enhance my overall grade through cumulative assessment. Consequently, the current grading does not fully capture my progress or comprehension of the course content.

Given these exceptional circumstances, I respectfully request consideration for a credit standing, as it would more accurately represent my academic efforts and the impact of these disruptions on my performance.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Respectfully,
Riley Maniscalco
