Petition Letter: During Winter 2025, there was a labour strike in which foremost affected my final assignment and other assignments during the course. As such my TAs and instructor were unable to offer any comments, feedback, or assist with our assignments. Thus, I believe that in this way I underperformed due to the lack of opportunities offered (for example, cancelled final exam) and lack of the professor’s ability to participate in her duties. In an effort to assist with these challenges I reached out to the department head, seeking any guidance they could offer. While I attempted to seek help, my results were not successful as I still scored below what I would have normally given the external circumstances surrounding the professor's inability to help. Similarly, I severely injured my ankle on March 10th, 2025. This injury is still persisting currently and I am under the care of a surgeon. Due to the severe pain of my injury and inability to mobilize fully, the continuous pain often led me to become very fatigued. My surgeon has ordered several tests, including x-rays and MRIs, as my ankle has not responded to any traditional forms of treatment (immobilization). Further, I am also a student with an identified disability with QSAS. I was formally diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder and anxiety disorder. With these conditions I struggled greatly with memory retrieval, I had thus reached out to QSAS, student wellness, my own private therapist, and my professor of the course to find out what options I had in terms of underperforming on written assessments (exams). In this way, I was referred to a care provider at Student wellness who will be assessing me for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) in June. I noticed that as a result of the strike, the symptoms I have including, persistent memory loss, inability to retrieve the memories while taking timed assessments, difficulty with concentration were extremely exacerbated as I felt overwhelmed not being able to rely on the teaching staff for support. I would posit that given the surrounding situation it became incredibly difficult to succeed at my normal capacity since I was experiencing these symptoms without the direct support of the teaching staff.
