Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I respectfully ask for a Credit (CR) designation in DEVS 361 for Winter 2025 because extraordinary circumstances severely affected my academic performance.

Between February and April I faced multiple unexpected personal and family challenges that severely disrupted my focus and performance in this course. The events took place beyond my control and they created an extended disruption throughout the academic term's most important months.

In this period both a provincial and federal election were happening while a close family member participated in both contests. The simultaneous campaigns required extensive involvement from me which demanded a large amount of both my time and mental effort. My academic performance declined in this particular class because juggling these commitments alongside my studies became progressively challenging.

During this time my brother suffered a serious relapse of schizophrenia which led to his hospitalization. During this period my family and I endured extremely challenging and emotional circumstances. The combination of worrying about my brother's health and taking on additional home responsibilities negatively affected both my mental state and my ability to focus on my studies.

In addition to these two significant events multiple personal matters emerged that intensified my stress levels. All these combined circumstances led to a situation where I could not meet my normal academic performance standards. Despite my continued enrollment and efforts to stay current I experienced a direct negative impact on my course performance. I hoped things would get better so I held off on requesting accommodations but the situation continued throughout the term without improvement.

My academic performance outside of this course continues to be strong which should show my dedication to my studies when I can perform under standard conditions. My below-standard performance in this case resulted exclusively from this exceptional and stressful period.

I request your consideration for granting me a Credit (CR) standing as a reasonable resolution under these special circumstances.
