Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To the Academic Petitions Committee,

I am writing to formally request academic consideration for the deferral of my PHGY 216 final exam. I am submitting this petition due to extenuating health circumstances that were beyond my control and that significantly impacted my academic performance.

Earlier this past week, I had to take emergency contraception (Plan B), which resulted in a range of unexpected and intense side effects. These included persistent nausea, cramping, headaches, and severe mood changes, all of which persisted for several days. During this time, I struggled to concentrate, retain material, or engage meaningfully with my exam preparation. These symptoms were both physically and emotionally draining, and they occurred during the critical final days leading up to the exam.

Although I made an effort to stay on top of my coursework, I found myself unable to study effectively or prepare to the standard I normally uphold. As a result, I did not feel academically or mentally ready to write the PHGY 216 final exam on the scheduled date. I consulted with my professor, Dr. Ward, who informed me that a second deferral request must be made through the faculty petition process, which is why I am reaching out.

I am more than willing to provide additional information if needed. I respectfully ask that my circumstances be considered and that I be given a fair opportunity to complete the exam when I am well enough to do so.
