Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter:
Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally petition for a review of my final grade in ECON 111, which I believe may have been incorrectly calculated due to a number of factors. I have already attempted to resolve the issue with my instructor through informal discussions, but the matter remains unresolved. I respectfully request the assistance of the Associate Dean’s Office to facilitate a review of my final grade.

Grounds for Petition:

Assignment 6 Grade Discrepancy:
In Assignment 6, I followed the instructor’s instructions to leave a flawed question blank, which I did as they said in the second submission. The final grade for this assignment does not reflect the updated submission, as the gradebook still shows the first attempt, resulting in a score of 9.14/14. The corrected score should be 14/14. This discrepancy has negatively affected my overall grade. I respectfully request that this be taken into account when reviewing my final grade. Proof can be provided of this email log.

Final Grade Calculation:
After recalculating my final grade, I determined that it should be 89.45%. Given the rounding practice described by the instructor, my grade would round to 89.5%, which would qualify as an A+. However, the final grade has been recorded as 89% (an A), and I believe this rounding discrepancy warrants reconsideration. I have attached my calculations and other relevant documentation for reference.

Impact of Discussion Post Responses:
Due to the TA strike, I was unable to receive timely feedback on my discussion posts. As a result, I missed responding to two peers(I did just one), which negatively impacted my grade for the course. If I had received feedback in a timely manner, I would have been able to complete the required responses. I ask that this context be taken into account when considering my overall performance in the course. Also, my response to the one peer was perfect marks in both assignments, so to only get half the marks for the response seems unfair, given it is likely I would've had another perfect second response.

Potential Error on Final Exam:
I also believe that one of the questions on the final exam may have contained an error. I have requested a review of the Scantron but have not yet been granted access to the exam to confirm if the issue was addressed in the final grade. I would appreciate the opportunity to review the exam for any potential discrepancies.

Request for Review:

In light of the above points, I respectfully request that the following actions be taken:

A re-evaluation of Assignment 6 to reflect the correct grade (14/14) and its impact on the overall grade.

Consideration of my final grade based on the recalculated 89.45%, which rounds to 89.5%, qualifying for an A+.

If still needed, a review of my discussion posts and the effect of the delayed feedback due to the TA strike on my grade.

Access to my final exam materials to review the question in question and confirm whether an error was made.
