Request to Late-Add DEVS102 for Summer 2025
I hope this message finds you well. I kindly and hopefully request permission to add DEVS102 to my summer semester. This course is the final requirement I need to complete my undergraduate degree, and it’s especially important to me as I’ve received a conditional offer from the Longo Faculty of Business, contingent upon the completion of my studies this summer. I completely understand that deadlines are in place for good reason, and I take full responsibility for missing this one. I am grateful for your time and consideration in reviewing my appeal.
The weeks leading up to the enrolment deadline were situationally challenging, and while I wish I had better prepared myself for this time, a combination of factors loaned to the delay:
Misplaced Advising Documents: In the rush of moving from Kingston, I accidentally left my advising materials behind. My roommate was kind enough to send them to me, but the delay meant I couldn’t confirm my course eligibility as quickly as I’d hoped.
Full-Time Work Demands: With the goal of supporting myself financially, I began working full-time almost immediately, which left me with very little flexibility to address unexpected hurdles like retrieving my documents. I underestimated how much time it would take to sort everything out, though I am able to recognize where better planning would have been pertinent and necessary.
Unexpected Injury: The week of the deadline, I broke my toe and part of my foot, which added another layer of difficulty. Between the doctor’s appointments and general disruption, I fell behind on administrative matters, which were primarily concerned with finalizing my course registration.
I hope to emphasize that I don’t take this matter lightly. I know how important it is to respect deadlines, and I sincerely regret that I allowed these circumstances to cause any delay. That said, I’m determined to make the most of this opportunity if granted, and I’m fully prepared to work to succeed.
If my request is approved, I would like you to be assured that this course will be approached with dedication. Below I have outlined a plan to ensure everything stays on track:
Time Management: I’ll create a structured schedule (which I am also happy to include) to balance coursework, work commitments, and recovery, making sure that there is less oversight.
Open Communication: I am open to any suggestions and instructions, and am very much willing to do what is necessary. I am also happy to collaborate/ reach out to peers in Devs.
Outside Implications: I’m making sure to follow medical advice so it doesn’t interfere with my studies and/or create a work schedule overlap with school commitments.
I’ve attached supporting documentation, including:
A note from the hospital visit for the work-related injury.
My conditional offer letter from Humber.
Relevant permission from the course instructor.
Thank you so much for acknowledging my appeal and for your understanding. This degree means a great deal to me, and I’m genuinely looking forward to wrapping it up on a strong note. If there’s any additional information I can provide, please don’t hesitate to let me know, I’m happy to help in any way I can.
With sincere appreciation,
Madison Thompson
