Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to request consideration for a CR designation on my transcript due to the challenges I faced in two courses.

In Markets and Morals, the disruption caused by the strike and limited instruction time affected my ability to fully engage with the course material. I received a B-, which is below my usual performance in philosophy courses. As someone deeply passionate about the subject, I struggled to fully grasp the expectations of the TAs, which may have impacted my final grade. Furthermore, the absence of a final assessment limited my opportunity to demonstrate my understanding and improve my standing in the course.

Regarding Intro to Statistics, I enrolled in the 263 section based on Professor Molson’s highly favorable reviews on Rate My Professor. He proved to be an engaging and charismatic instructor, but as an inexperienced student, I was unaware of the differences between this course and the psychology-focused statistics course, particularly in terms of teaching methodologies. Throughout the semester, I faced considerable challenges, and despite attending TA-led help sessions, I struggled to grasp the mathematical concepts. My final grade of D-, largely determined by a 60% final exam, was disappointing. At the time, I believed I had no recourse, but discussions during the recent strike made me aware that students could petition for a CR designation to protect their GPA. Although I recognize I am late in the process, I sincerely hope my request can still be considered.

As I enter my final undergraduate year and prepare to apply for graduate programs, maintaining a strong GPA is essential for my academic and professional aspirations. I deeply appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing my request and would be grateful for any guidance on how to proceed.

Best regards,
Emma Walcer
