Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Michael Adams
 
I am writing to formally request a review of the grading for both my midterm and final exams as well as consideration for the bi-weekly quizzes in Economics of Health 243. I believe that elements of procedural fairness and reasonable academic support were not upheld during the course, which significantly impacted my ability to succeed within each quiz and exam.
 
While I appreciate that the Teaching Assistant strike during the term caused student feedback to become disrupted, I was unable to assess my progress within the course nor was I able to use feedback from my midterm to then approach the following quizzes and final exam properly. My professor acknowledged that the TA strike affected my ability to receive feedback, however, despite his agreement, when I requested an opportunity for extra credit, he subsequently denied my request made on March, 25th, 2025 without reasons extending beyond the fact that “he had not approved extra credit for others”. This request was made during the academic term, prior to writing the final exam. I received an email on March, 25th, 2025 informing me that nothing could be done.
 
When requesting an informal review of my midterm and final exam, I requested completed copies of my submitted final exam from my professor so that I could understand the evaluation. I still have not received feedback nor a submitted copy of my midterm.
 
While I understand that I may not have excelled in the course to significantly increase my average, I do believe the lack of timely feedback and support from my professor – noting the strike’s impact on my academic performance, would have resulted in me passing this course, and improving to at least a D+/C- average.
