Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing to respectfully petition for an additional deferred BIOL 334 final examination attempt due to an acute, unforeseen medical circumstance (vomiting) that rendered me physically and mentally incapable of completing my deferred exam on the scheduled date.
During the initial Winter 2025 exam period, I was diagnosed with streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat), for which I provided medical documentation and received approval to defer my originally scheduled BIOL 334 exam. My deferred examination was set for May 17th 2025.
On the morning of my exam, despite feeling a slight stomach ache, I reported to the examination hall determined to write my exam and avoid further deferral. Approximately 15 to 20 minutes into the exam, I experienced sudden and severe nausea, followed by repeated vomiting. Upon requesting to use the washroom, I was reminded by the head proctor, Cheryl L., that I was not allowed to leave during the first 30 minutes of the exam; however, due to the emergency of the situation, an assistant proctor accompanied me to the washroom. Over the next forty minutes, I had to use the washroom to vomit at least 4 separate occasions. Each episode of illness left me increasingly disoriented and unable to focus on exam questions. By the second trip to the washroom, it became clear to both me and to the proctors that I was no longer physically or mentally capable of continuing my exam. My concentration had been irreparably disrupted, and I was unable to read or answer questions coherently. Upon leaving the examination hall, I made sure to notify Cheryl L. who can vouche for my acute, unforeseen circumstance.
In light of these extenuating medical circumstances that were beyond my control and adequately documented, I respectfully request permission to schedule a further deferred examination for BIOL 334. I am happy to complete this deferred exam at the convenience of my test administrator(s). I appreciate your consideration of my petition and stand ready to provide any additional documentation or to meet with the committee as needed.
