Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Follow the university rules and regulations in a way that supported your right to a fair process.
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.

Appeal Letter: To the Board of Studies,
I am writing to formally appeal the decision to uphold the requirement for me to withdraw from Queen’s for one year. I want to thank you for the thoughtful consideration already given to my petition and ask that you please reconsider now that I am submitting additional supporting documentation.
During the 2024/2025 academic year, I faced deeply personal and overwhelming challenges that directly affected my academic performance and my ability to make timely decisions like dropping courses. I have attached:
Proof of a medically documented abortion that occurred during the term,
A doctor’s note confirming that I am now being treated for a severe anxiety condition and that academic accommodations are recommended.
In the upcoming weeks before the fall term I have an appointment with a psychiatrist to assess ADHD and continue treatment, which I am currently being referred to by my physician.
These challenges severely affected my focus, energy, and executive functioning throughout the year. I wasn’t in a place mentally or emotionally to advocate for myself properly or understand how badly my situation was impacting my academic standing. I was trying so hard not to give up, even when I had no support system around me, and was mentally exhausted from trying to hold everything together. The internal battle between not wanting to let myself or my family down, and not having the tools or capacity to keep up, was constant.
That said, I’m now actively seeking the help I need. I’ve made meaningful progress: I’ve opened up to medical professionals, am being treated for anxiety, and will soon receive a formal ADHD assessment. During the second semester I also connected with a Queen’s Campus therapist. I now have a better understanding of what was affecting me, and more importantly, how to manage it going forward. I genuinely believe that, with this new support plan in place, I can return to Queen’s, moving forward and succeed.
I hope the documentation I’ve submitted makes it clear how serious and real these extenuating circumstances were and how committed I am to continuing my education and turning things around.

I plan to submit additional documentation at a later date: The two documents, one being a doctors note from my physician who is currently treating me, and proof of the day I got the procedure at the blood west women’s clinic, me sending my health card information, I am waiting for them to email my medical records from the day to provide to this appeal, I hope within this week.
