Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I'm writing to request that my PSYC100 grade be removed from my GPA calculation due to extenuating circumstances that negatively impacted my academic performance throughout the past school year.
At the beginning of the year, my grandfather passed away, which was extremely difficult for my family and I as he had been dealing with health issues since November 2022. This affected my ability to focus during the early months of the semester. Then, around March, I experienced a significant spike in my diagnosed anxiety due to personal issues, which led to frequent panic attacks and related health issues (heart palpitations, resulting in blood work and ECG tests). These challenges made it difficult for me to study and keep up with my coursework, and I believe this had a direct impact on both my assignments and my final exam performance in PSYC100.
I’ve been taking steps to manage both my mental and physical health, including speaking with healthcare professionals (nurse practitioner, doctor, etc.) and my therapist to seek support to better cope with my anxiety. Despite these efforts, the effects on my academic performance were still significant, and I unfortunately failed the course.
While I don’t plan to pursue a Psychology major, this failed grade has had a major impact on my GPA. I’m currently sitting at a 1.880, just below the 1.9 required to be considered for the pending list for my intended major in Film and Media. I believe that if PSYC100 were removed from my GPA, I would meet that requirement to be at least on the pending list.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my situation. I’ve included documentation from professionals to support this petition, and I appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Chloe Matrundola
