Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing this letter to apply for late drop course of stat 353 and math 281 in 2025 winter term. This request is due to two important setbacks I encountered during the winter of 2025, the death of my grandfather and the divorce of my parents which severely damaged my learning ability during this period. My grandfather passed away unexpectedly on February 9th. Although I have a good relationship with my grandfather, my parents do not allow me to attend his funeral because they are concerned that I may affect my studies. It was not until now that I can return to China during the summer vacation that I was able to pay my respects at his grave.

Unfortunately, my parents officially started divorce proceedings during this period. The accompanying family conflicts, economic instability, and emotional distress have consumed my mental abilities. I have to frequently pass on messages between my parents because they are not even willing to directly contact each other before reaching a consensus, which takes up a lot of energy and time.

I thought I could handle it all, but obviously, these situations have had a huge impact on me and I haven't been able to coordinate everything well.
