To the Associate Dean (Academic),

My name is Avery Camryn Yoo and I am writing to respectfully request CR (Credit) grade designations for the following courses: HLTH 230, MUSC 171, BIOL 103, and ENSC 201. Of these, two were electives and two were required for my degree. These courses were taken during my first, second, and most recent academic terms. While I understand that some time has passed since completing a few of them, I hope my circumstances can be taken into account.

Throughout high school and into university, I have experienced persistent test anxiety that has made it challenging to manage the demands of a full five-course load, especially in exam-heavy courses. During my earlier years at Queen’s, I often found myself performing well in most of my classes, but consistently underperforming in one each term due to the heightened stress and anxiety surrounding exams. At the time, I didn’t fully understand how much this was impacting my academic performance or how to seek out appropriate support.

One example is ENSC 201, where I experienced a panic attack during the final exam. This was an overwhelming and uncharacteristic moment that severely affected my ability to complete the assessment. The grade I received in the course was not reflective of the effort I put in or my understanding of the material. That experience is not representative of who I am as a student, and I hope that context can be considered in this appeal.

Since then, I have been actively working on my mental health and developing better strategies to manage anxiety. I’ve found approaches that are helping me maintain stronger grades and a healthier academic balance. I now feel much more confident in my ability to manage a full course load and perform consistently across all of my classes.

The grades I received in the above courses do not reflect my academic capabilities or my current level of performance. I believe that assigning a CR grade to these courses would provide a more accurate picture of my academic progress and growth. I have a doctor’s note available to support this petition and am happy to provide it upon request.
