Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I would like to make three requests in this appeal. 1) That the 21 day appeal deadline be waived 2) that the following courses be dropped past their deadline; PHIL 204, PHIL 256, PHIL 257, HIST 124 and GRMN 101 3) That I be allowed to return to study in the fall term if the first two request are granted for the extenuating circumstances that apply.
It pains me to report that my second year of study at Queens University did not go according to plan and I was unable to fulfill the desired outcomes that were detailed in my previous academic appeal. Much like the year before my primary struggle was with issues concerning an ongoing mood disorder however this year presented new difficulties such as the untimely passing away of my father in early October. Prior to the event I believed my condition to be improving and was enthusiastically propelled towards doing well in school and improving my grades with a sense of confidence in my abilities to do so. Nevertheless, the event offset all that and I felt myself again becoming gripped by despair as my mood sank towards feelings of sadness, stress, anxiety and even anger, very quickly I was unable to perform to the best of my abilities as grief manifested its way into my life. In turn my physical health suffered as I experienced fatigue, nausea, weight loss and lack of concentration, this made it considerably more difficult to participate in school and often resulted in me missing lectures.
Since the completion of the previous school year I have worked tirelessly and devoted all my attention towards readdressing my long term academic goals and weighing each option out. I have given consideration towards transferring to a different program or school; however, I feel the most appropriate course of action to ensure I achieve academic success would be through a reduced work load, I would not wish to take more than 2-3 classes as I intend to spend the rest of my time devoted to improving my physical health through vigorous exercise.I would also continue to use services offered by Queens like counselling to ensure that I adhere to the success plan I have created. My greatest goal in life is to complete the education that I have started here at Queens University and it has been my greatest disappointment that my first two years of study did not afford me the opportunity to partake in the experience which I had hoped to become a part of. With these circumstances I hope you understand the position which I am coming from and will ultimately assist in me returning to study in the fall term. Thank for your time and apologies for the duration it took to submit this report, supporting documentation can be found in my student file.
