Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to formally petition for an informal grade review for my final grade in ECON 351, taught by Professor Steven Lehrer during the Winter 2025 term. Upon the release of final grades, I was shocked to see that I had received an F in the course. This outcome was entirely unexpected given my consistent performance and diligent efforts throughout the term.
Throughout the semester, I completed all required coursework, including lab assignments, coding exercises, and quizzes, without missing any submissions. I consistently engaged with the course material and have every reason to believe that my performance was satisfactory and far from failing. I have evidence of my grades on pearson as well. Given this record, the failing grade is baffling and suggests that there may have been a clerical or grading error.
Immediately after receiving my grade, I attempted to contact Professor Lehrer multiple times to seek clarification on the breakdown of my marks and to request feedback. Unfortunately, I did not receive any response. Additionally, no detailed breakdown of my final grade was provided to me during the course, making it impossible for me to verify where my performance allegedly fell short. Transparent feedback and grade disclosure are essential for students to understand and learn from their academic performance, and the lack of such information has left me in a position where I am unable to assess the basis for my failing grade.
This situation is deeply concerning because ECON 351 is a core requirement for my degree program, and receiving an F has significant implications for my academic progression and financial situation as an international student. I have always prided myself on being a diligent and responsible student, meeting all academic requirements, and approaching my studies with seriousness and integrity.
My petition is not an attempt to undermine academic standards but rather a good-faith request for fairness and clarity. I strongly believe that there has been an error or oversight, and I respectfully request that my grade be formally reviewed to ensure that my academic record accurately reflects my work in the course.
I kindly request the following through this petition:
1.A full review of my final grade, including all assignments, quizzes, labs, and the final exam, to confirm the accuracy of the grading.
2.Disclosure of my detailed grade breakdown, so that I can understand how the final grade was calculated.
3.Any opportunity to discuss this matter further or provide additional documentation of my coursework if required.
Given the serious academic and financial implications of this grade, I humbly request that my petition be considered with urgency. I am confident that a fair and thorough review will demonstrate that my performance merits a grade higher than an F.
