Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am petitioning to get a full refund for the course CHEM 112 A.
I am aware that the course drop deadline for a full refund was Last Monday, September 15th, 2025. However during this time, I was going through an immense amount of stress with my classes; specifically this one in particular because of how many hours and work I had already put into this course only get nowhere due to my limited chemistry background. The amount of stress I was accumulating had caused me to have physical changes that I got so worried I went to a walk in clinic because I had grown so concerned as to why certain things were happening to me, the doctor said that it was all due to stress.
I would also like to add that I had only added this course to my schedule a week late, and underestimated just how much time I would need to put into this course with my limited background- I fear that I would only affect my grades in other classes. All in all, it is best that I drop this course and complete it at a later date. However, I feel it is not fair that I only get half a refund back when I had came in the course at a later date then the majority of other students in the course, being unaware of how much time and work I'd put into it, the amount of stress I was accumulating was a factor and stopped me from even thinking that it was a possibility to drop the course- I felt like I could take it on but realised it was only adding more stress to me, and it is best that I'd take it at a later date. Also with my financial situation, I just cannot afford to only get half a refund, this is money that I need to put into a future course. Coming back to school from a year off, I underestimated how much a full course load would affect me, however, I wanted to do a full course load so I could manage paying rent here and aligning it with my in person school classes- since when I am living with my mom I am not paying rent and can do other online classes, it is less stressful however online classes are quite limited, especially in my program. I have also put in hundreds of dollars into textbooks, and required materials for this course that I cannot get money back for. This alone had stressed me out because I could have put this money into other textbooks for other classes. If you are able to help me get my money back for these platforms (Stemble and Knewton Alta) please let me know as this would help me alot. All in all, if I were to only get half a refund back I would essentially be loosing an immense amount of money, which I just cannot afford, as money is another big stress factor for me.
I just hope that you can understand my situation and see that loosing all that money already is not easy for me, dropping a course is already stressing me out because this just means I will graduate at a later date which I rather not do. The stress this course and this situation has given me has been taking me over, affecting other factors in my life. Please try and understand my situation, I feel like asking for a full refund is reasonable.
I had spoken to Roger Davidson, a healthcare professional from student wellness services, who has written a letter explaining my situation.
Please consider my request,
Thank you
Michelle
