Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully petition for permission to add the five course of ARTH 391, ARTH 307, ARTH 383, ARTH 348, and ARTH 234 to my schedule for the Fall 2025 semester.
Unfortunately, I was unable to register for these courses during the regular registration period due to a hold on my student account (Student ID: 20295117). The hold, which was related to a one-year leave of absence, was meant to be completed by the start of the 2025 fall term but remained active on my account throughout the course registration period. I had gone to the undergrad registration as well as the Head of the Art History Department a week before the beginning of the semester to ask for assistance in resolving the hold on my account, to ensure that I would be able to enrol in courses.
I went back and forth between these two departments as well as the Academic Advising team as there were difficulties in having the hold removed, and the Art History Department Head had reached out to the department’s Undergraduate Chair several times during the following weeks as we were working together to try to resolve this issue. The hold issue has since been resolved as of September 18th. However, by the time the hold was removed, the Add/Drop deadline for the fall semester (Sept 15th) had passed and I found myself still unable to enrol in courses despite my commitment to returning to full-time studies at Queen’s.
The courses I listed above are critical to my academic progression, as they help fulfill requirements that I need to achieve in order to graduate. I have been attending lectures and communicating with the professors for all of these courses, including doing all of the assigned readings. I am committed to catching up on any missed material, whether this be adding extra assignments or any other form of extracurricular work. I will continue to work with my professors to ensure a smooth transition into each of these classes, should I be granted permission to enrol.
I hope you will consider my petition and I appreciate your time and attention to this matter. Please let me know if there is any additional information you require or steps I should take. I am also happy to attach any supporting documentation I may need to help further this process.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As a student in the Art History Major Plan who took a one-year leave of absence after my third year of full-time studies, I am eager to return and complete my fourth year of study at Queen's despite issues in resolving the hold on my student account associated with the academic leave. I have completed three years of full-time study already in my program, and the courses I am hoping to be enrolled in will all contribute directly to my degree program requirements and keep me on track to graduate once I have completed the credits that I need.
I am highly interested in the content in every single one of these courses and have been so excited to re-immerse myself in the world of art history as it is a subject that I am very passionate about. I have been doing my best to keep up with my desired courses despite not having access to the OnQ page or being officially enrolled by regularly attending the lectures, engaging with the content, completing the assigned readings, and communicating with other students in these courses. I have also been reaching out to the professors and initiating discussions on how to successfully navigate the courses if I am able to be enrolled, and have had some great conversations that have left me very optimistic about the rest of this semester.
If I encounter any difficulties over the course of the fall term in re-entering the academic environment, I will be sure to reach out to some of the services that I have become familiar with over my time at Queen's, including SASS, Academic Advising, Peer Tutoring, and Student Wellness Services. I will also work on developing a good, consistent study schedule and will continue creating study groups with other students in my desired courses as I have begun doing already.
