Dear Petition Committee,
I am writing to respectfully request permission to add MUSC 171, ENGL 281 and DEVS 101 for the Fall 2025 semester, despite having missed the official deadline.
In the weeks leading up to September 8th, I was the primary caregiver for my maternal grandmother, who raised me and was a central figure in my life. She passed away on September 8th after a period of declining health. During that time, I was fully responsible for her care, which made it extremely difficult to manage my academic and personal responsibilities, including timely course registration.
In addition to this loss, I live with ADHD and bipolar disorder—both of which were significantly exacerbated by the emotional stress and grief I experienced. These conditions affect my executive functioning, emotional regulation, and ability to maintain consistent routines, especially during times of crisis. As a result, my ability to complete essential administrative tasks, like registering for classes, was severely impacted during this period.
Since then, I have taken steps to stabilize both emotionally and medically, including resuming treatment and support services. I am now in a better position to manage a full academic workload. I have also communicated with the instructor(s) of the course(s) I wish to add, and they have expressed support for my late enrollment.
I have attached supporting documentation and am willing to provide any further information upon request. I appreciate your consideration of my circumstances and hope you will allow me the opportunity to continue my academic progress this term.
Sincerely,
Emeren-Pearl Conde

As part of my petition to add classes past the deadline, I am submitting this academic plan to outline how I will support my academic success moving forward. This plan addresses both the temporary extenuating circumstance of my recent bereavement and the ongoing management of ADHD and bipolar disorder.
To support my mental health, I am maintaining regular appointments with a licensed mental health professional for both therapy and medication management. I have resumed a prescribed medication plan to manage my ADHD and bipolar disorder, and I am closely monitoring my progress with the help of my healthcare provider. I have also reached out to campus disability services to arrange academic accommodations that will support my learning needs.
To reduce stress and set myself up for success, I have chosen to take a lighter course load this semester. I worked with my academic advisor to carefully select courses that are primarily online, with only final assessments conducted in person. This format gives me more control over my schedule and allows me to work at my own pace while maintaining academic engagement.
Additionally, I am implementing several strategies to stay organized and on track such as using a digital and physical planner to manage assignments, deadlines, and appointments. Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps with realistic goals as well as taking advantage of campus academic support services such as tutoring and writing help will be to my benefit. These methods are specifically designed to help with executive functioning challenges related to ADHD.
I will remain in regular contact with my instructors and teaching assistants to stay informed and ask for help when needed. I’ve also scheduled regular check-ins with my academic advisor to monitor my progress and make adjustments as needed. In addition, I am building a support network by connecting with peers and accessing student groups focused on mental health and academic success. If I encounter difficulties, I will act early by reaching out to professors and advisors to explore appropriate academic accommodations or alternatives. I am also aware of options such as a temporary medical leave, should that become necessary.
With these personal and academic adjustments, I am confident in my ability to succeed. I am committed to staying on track with my studies while managing my health, and I will continue to seek support and make thoughtful choices throughout the semester.
Thank you for considering my academic plan as part of my petition.
Sincerely,
Emeren-Pearl Conde
