Petition Letter: To the Academic Petitions Committee,
I am writing to request permission to add CISC 102 (Dr. Erin Meger) and CISC 121 (Dr. Ruslan Kain) to my 2025 Fall Term course load. The official deadline has already passed.
I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science, Computer Engineering stream in Smith Engineering at Queen’s. After a few weeks of study, I realized that my long-term goals fit better with the Computing, Software Engineering stream in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
When I applied from high school, I received offers from both programs. I chose Engineering first. Now I see that Computing is a better fit for me.
I cannot transfer mid-term. My plan is to apply for admission to Arts and Science as an upper-year student next year. To stay on track with the Computing program, I need to take CISC 102 and CISC 121 this term.
I know the petition deadline has passed. This happened because I only discovered my need to transfer after the term began. The timing made it impossible to act before the deadline.
I have already spoken with Dr. Meger and Dr. Kain. They told me they are willing to help me make up the missed work. I have already started reviewing the course material and assignments. I also have previous coding experience, which will help me catch up quickly.
I ask the Committee to allow me to add these two courses to my Fall schedule. I will meet all expectations and complete the missed work on time. I want to stay on track for my transfer to Computing next year.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If my petition is approved, I will catch up on the missed work right away. I have already spoken with Dr. Meger and Dr. Kain. They told me they will support me as I join the courses late. I will review all past lectures and assignments. I will also attend office hours when I need help.
I have past coding experience. This will help me learn faster and reduce the gap. I will add extra study time each week to make sure I stay on track. I will continue with my Engineering courses. At the same time, I will focus on Computing courses that match the program I want to transfer into. At the end of this year, I will apply for admission to Arts and Science in the Software Engineering stream.
I will also use academic resources at Queen’s. I plan to visit the help centre and meet with instructors and TAs when needed. I will manage my schedule carefully to balance both Engineering and Computing courses. This plan will allow me to succeed this term. It will also prepare me for a smooth transfer into the Computing program next year.
