The strike in the winter of 2025 caused a dramatic change in the course structure of IDIS 173. In particular, the three remaining blog assignments' weights were combined into one blog assignment. In addition to adding stress to managing my other classes, this unexpected change gave one task, which was the final blog assignment, an excessive amount of weight, which created additional stress and limited and hindered my ability to demonstrate my knowledge and skills across multiple submissions as originally intended, especially for someone with anxiety. I tend to perform better where marks are distributed across multiple submissions. Having several assignments usually gives me the opportunity to demonstrate my understanding consistently, and if one submission does not go as well, I can still show my overall learning. In this case, the collapse of three blogs into one meant that I had no such balance, and my performance on a single assignment disproportionately determined my final grade. Throughout the term, I consistently participated and made an effort to keep up with the course despite the disruptions. As a result, my performance on that single weighted assignment did not reflect my overall engagement and understanding of the course material.
In light of these circumstances, which were beyond my control, I respectfully request that my grade for this course be converted to a CR (Credit). I believe this would more fairly recognize the work I completed and the learning I achieved, while also accounting for the exceptional impact of the strike on course delivery and evaluation.
