Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean who receives this:
Hello,
I trust you are well.
I’m writing this petition letter requesting to have the petition deadline waived for a late course add so that I may be registered for an undergraduate thesis course.
I do not have a specific extenuating circumstance which has caused me to miss the deadline. The reason I missed the course add date is that I thought a well defined thesis question was required before ever entering the course, not knowing that it would be developed as part of the course material.
I have approval of the department, have had several meetings with my proposed supervisor, Dr. Rob Harrap, to discuss my ideas, and have done considerable research on my topic of choice. I am confident that I can proceed in good pace through the thesis course and that I will do well in developing scientifically progressive research.
I understand that my past grades might not reflect academic aspirations, this is because I thrive in independent studies where I can define the goalposts of knowledge and design experiments to reach them. I’m intent on pursuing further postgraduate education and ask that you please grant me a chance.
Thank you,
Justin
