Appeal Grounds
Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Follow the university rules and regulations in a way that supported your right to a fair process.
Appeal Grounds Details: I believe the decision was not made with consideration to all evidence relevant to the situation. I believed the course instructor would provide the information of an agreement we had made together regarding my assignment submissions, and demonstrate that I have completed all outstanding work, but I now see that information was excluded from the original review and was therefore not addressed by the associate dean. I believe this is unfair, which is why I am appealing the decision.
Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: Dear academic petitions committee,
I am writing to appeal the decision regarding my request for Credit Standing in HIST 228
(Winter 2024). I am appealing this decision on the grounds that the information provided by the
course instructor regarding my completion of coursework is inaccurate.
In your response letter, it was stated that I did not complete the final project the critical
workshop, and an assignment on apothecary medicine. I respectfully must disagree with this
conclusion as I have committed substantial time and effort to complete all of the listed
assignments, and I will be attaching documented proof demonstrating that I completed all
outstanding coursework in accordance with an agreement I had made with the professor.
On April 24, 2024, I communicated with my professor regarding my incomplete coursework and
to request and IN in the course with the help of my QSAS advisor. After numerous emails and
discussions, the professor explicitly agreed via email that if I submitted the remaining
assignments by May 25, 2024, my work would be accepted, and my grade would be updated
accordingly. I submitted all outstanding coursework on May 24, 2024, prior to the agreed
deadline. I have attached with my appeal:
• An email chain with the professor confirming this agreement which includes my follow-
up email notifying the instructor that all work had been submitted and,
• Proof of submission with dates and timestamps for the completed assignments
Despite submitting the coursework on time and following up appropriately, I did not receive a
response from the instructor, nor was my grade changed. Based on the documented agreement
and my completion of the required components, I believe that the result of the petition was
unfair, and I am quite disappointed that my completed work does not appear to have been fully
considered in the initial review.
Given this verification of my position, I respectfully request that my eligibility for Credit
Standing in HIST 228 be reconsidered in light of my proven completion of all of the required
course components. I have poured an immense amount of time, energy, and effort into
completing my coursework and meeting academic requirements, despite facing severe personal
and medical challenges beyond my control. This process has been emotionally and physically
exhausting, and it has been incredibly difficult to continue proving my commitment to my
education under such circumstances. I hope that my documentation and evidence of completed
work will convey not only that I fulfilled the course requirements but also the dedication I have
maintained despite these obstacles.

reconsideration and support mean a great deal to me, and I am more than willing to provide any
additional information or clarification to help ensure my case is fully understood.
