Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic):

I am requesting permission to transfer an additional 3.0 units (increasing the total from 6.0 to 9.0 units) beyond the existing cap for “External Coursework Credit Transfer” (Letter of Permission). This is to address my credit deficiency and ensure I can graduate successfully in April 2026.

I am Liu Yuru, a fourth-year Applied Economics student at Queen's University. My student ID is 20340278. As an international student, my language proficiency during my first year was weaker compared to local students. I lacked proper study methods and had limited language skills during my first year. I failed my full-year Psychology course during my first year. Taking five courses in the fall2023 of my second year was extremely challenging for me. Due to my struggles during first year, I felt anxious and under immense pressure. I was unable to complete the required five courses per semester in the Winter 2023 term due to personal stress, I have accumulated a deficit of 6.0 units. To proactively address this, It's worth noting that pressure didn't defeat me; it made me work harder. I have enrolled in and completed two Economics summer courses during Summer 2025. However, new scheduling and enrollment conflicts have arisen this academic year: After multiple unsuccessful communications with the management course coordinator for Fall 2025, I was only able to register for four courses. I currently remain 6.0 units short of graduation. I understand that since last year, the faculty policy limits the total number of transfer credits accepted throughout the entire degree program to 6.0 units; Having transferred 3.0 units in 2024, I retain a 3.0-unit allowance. Maintaining this cap prevents me from completing graduation requirements this academic year. To graduate on schedule, I plan to enroll in and transfer 6.0 units from an external winter program this season. Therefore, I respectfully request that the department temporarily raise my transfer credit limit to 9.0 units.

I am not trying to avoid on-campus courses. My request comes from real challenges with course schedules and graduation timing. The on-campus courses I need either do not fit my major or clash with my schedule, making it impossible to finish my credits on time. Allowing extra transfer credits would help me fill this gap quickly, without lowering academic standards or causing delays and extra costs. I will choose courses that match my major and meet Queen’s requirements, and I will complete the Letter of Pre-Approval and course mapping before enrolling.

I fully recognize that this request constitutes an additional application and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. However, it represents a critical step for my timely graduation. I am prepared to submit all supporting documentation and course syllabi as required by the college and cooperate with any further review. I respectfully request your approval to temporarily increase my transfer credit limit to 9.0 units, based on a comprehensive assessment of academic progress, timeliness, and feasibility. Thank you very much for your consideration and support!

Best regards,
Yuru

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To make sure I succeed and stay on track, I have made the following plan:
1) I will manage my time carefully and set clear goals to make sure I attend all Winter Project courses and complete assessments on time.
2) I will finish the course equivalency and credit approval steps ahead of time and keep all syllabi and assessment materials.
3) I will stay in touch with my academic advisor and use learning support and health resources if needed to avoid stress-related problems.
4) If I need to make any changes during the winter term, I will focus on retaking courses on campus if seats are available to meet my degree requirements.
