Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hi,
I am writing to formally request consideration of my petition on the grounds of exceptional circumstances relating to a unique academic opportunity. I have been accepted to study abroad at the University of Autonoma Barcelona in Spain during the Winter 2026 term, and I am petitioning for permission to take more than two credits outside of Queen’s University in order to fully participate in this exchange program.
Below I have listed the courses and syllabus:
Emotions Stress and Self Regulation UAB:
https://www.uab.cat/doc/Emotions_Stress_and_SelfRegulation
INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
https://www.uab.cat/doc/Syllabus_Intercultural_Communication
Spanish Contemporary Art
https://www.uab.cat/doc/spanish_contemporary_art
Modernism: Art Nouveau Architecture Sketched and Explained
https://www.uab.cat/doc/Modernism_art_nouveau
Completing a full course load abroad is essential to me for fulfilling the academic requirements of the exchange and to ensuring that my studies remain on track for timely degree completion. The additional external credits I am requesting are directly equivalent to Queen’s-approved courses and will be taken under the supervision of the host institution’s faculty, following academic standards comparable to those at Queen’s.
I am confident that this opportunity will enrich my academic development, strengthen my cross-cultural competencies, and enhance my preparation for future graduate and professional opportunities.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this petition. I would be happy to provide any additional documentation or course outlines as needed.
Sincerely,
Rachel Pathe

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: While abroad, I plan to stay organized through a structured weekly study schedule and maintain regular communication with my Queen’s academic advisor to confirm that my coursework remains on track. I will take elective courses in order to work towards my degree. I will also take advantage of academic support resources offered at the University Autonoma of Barcelona, such as office hours, tutoring services, and peer study groups, to ensure that I continue to meet the same academic standards expected at Queen’s.
Upon returning to Queen’s, I intend to apply the skills and perspectives gained abroad to my upper-year courses, particularly in areas related to cross-cultural health systems. This experience will not only strengthen my academic foundation but also enhance my preparation for future graduate study or professional work.
Overall, my plan reflects a proactive approach to ensuring academic success both during and after my exchange term.
Many thanks,
Rachel
