Petition Letter: Petition to Late Drop ECON 322: Financial Markets and Risk Management

To the Faculty of Arts and Science Petition Committee,

I am writing to request permission to late drop ECON 322, Financial Markets and Risk Management. This request is based on extenuating circumstances that have affected my mental health and academic performance this term.

Throughout the semester, I have been balancing a demanding course load of six courses while also working part-time to help pay for my tuition and housing. Although I have remained committed and engaged in my studies, the combined academic and financial pressures have caused considerable stress and anxiety. Over the past several weeks, this has made it increasingly difficult to focus, maintain motivation, and perform to my usual academic standard.

These challenges have especially impacted my performance in ECON 322, which is an elective course. Despite studying extensively and attending lectures, the cumulative stress has limited my ability to demonstrate my understanding of the material. I have begun seeking support to manage my mental health and have taken steps to better balance my workload, but continuing in six courses while working has proven unsustainable.

Dropping ECON 322 would help alleviate this strain, allow me to prioritize my core academic requirements, and protect my mental well-being. I believe this is the most responsible path forward for my health and overall academic success.
