Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing to formally petition for a credit standing in CHEM 281. I took CHEM 281 during the Summer Semester of 2025. During this time, I was working abroad in New Zealand, which presented a significant challenge due to the 18 hour time difference between my location and the course deadlines. This time difference required me to complete coursework at inconvenient hours throughout the night. I requested accommodations to account for the time difference, including the possibility of submitting assignments prior to the deadlines; unfortunately this request was denied. As a result, I experienced significant difficulty during the final exam. The exam was scheduled for a reasonable time according to Eastern Standard Time, but due to my circumstances, I was only able to write it in the middle of the night. This situation prevented me from performing to my full ability and from adequately demonstrating my knowledge of the course material. Given these extenuating circumstances, I respectfully request consideration for a credit standing in CHEM 281.
I am happy to provide any additional documentation or details as needed.
Thanks for your consideration,
Ella Montagano
