Petition Letter: To Whom it may Concern:
I am currently an undergraduate Arts and Science student doing my bachelors of Honors in biology at Queens University. I have just finished my 4th year as of June however I have yet to graduate due to some outstanding credits. In order for me to complete my degree, I have to do the last half of my CHEM 112 transfer credit from Athabasca, as well as take two 200 level chemistries and MATH 121. Due to a series of mental health related issues over the past year, I had elected to not take any summer courses this past summer (2015). As of now, although my health issues are still ongoing, it is crucial for me to finish my degree. I did receive counseling at the Queens university Health and Counseling services department during the winter semester, however that did not extend over the summer as my counselor was away. While I have been getting psychiatric help in Toronto where I live, my condition is still largely unstable. As a result, I would like to complete the remainder of the few courses I have left for my degree online at another university such as Athabasca. It has been recommended to me that I stay near close family and friends by my counselor and as such would like to remain in Toronto where I can get the proper help I need.
Additionally, as a student with a single parent and several years of loans, I cannot financially afford to return to Kingston due to compounding costs of living. It is especially difficult for me to return, as Math 121 is a full year course, which would mean that I would only be returning to Kingston for one course in the winter semester. It would ultimately be unwise for me to return to Kingston as my environment and mental and financial stability would undoubtedly affect my ability to focus and succeed in the courses I take. As I would like to apply for grad school after my graduation, it is imperative that I not only complete but also do well in the remaining courses of my degree so that I can graduate with good academic standing. Furthermore, I can provide documentation concerning my health and related factors from my counselors both at Queens and in Toronto if necessary. However, I have been told over the phone that there is already a letter from the Queens University Health and Counseling Services department that is on file due to an earlier appeal I had made this summer for the refunding of a course I had dropped.
Thus, while I have already completed the majority of my degree including my research mentorship and following thesis at Queens, I would like to complete the remaining few courses online at another university due health and financial reasons. I would greatly appreciate your support in helping me graduate and succeed as a Queens graduate. Thank you for your time.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As an academic plan that will suit my personal abilities while also allowing me to gain the proper health care and professional assistance that I need, I would start by applying to one or two courses at Athabasca. As the university has a monthly enrolment for online courses that may be transferable and allows a 6 month period for you to finish the course, I feel I would greatly benefit from starting and thus finishing courses at different times in the year so as to reduce stress while still allowing me to focus on each course to ensure my success. I would take the remaining two courses towards the end of my previous two courses such that I am able to finish all courses in time for graduation in spring 2016. I intend to continue receiving psychiatric help throughout the school year as I am currently amidst a therapy program. My medication and persistent meetings with counselors has allowed me to plan and organize my life more efficiently. Thus, I would hope that this help would continue benefiting me throughout the school year such that I can do well in these courses despite their difficulty for me.
