Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I hope this finds you well. My name is Rylie Tishler, and I am writing to respectfully request a late drop from PHIL 224. I want to begin by sincerely apologizing for the circumstances that have led me to submit this petition, and I truly appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing it.
I am in the final stage of my degree and require one additional elective to graduate. During the Fall add/drop period, I was dealing with a convergence of significant personal and professional stressors that directly affected my ability to manage academic administration and deadlines. At that time, I was working in an incredibly demanding role that I ultimately ended not long ago, and was managing ongoing anxiety and depression, which was worsening due to the environment I was in. As mentioned, these circumstances overlapped during the add/drop period and significantly impaired my ability to organize enrolment decisions and respond appropriately to academic deadlines. During this period, I was enrolled in PHIL 224; I did not access course materials, submit any work, or participate academically at any point.
Once my circumstances stabilized, I learned that the course remained on my record past the drop deadline and immediately sought to address the situation through this petition.
I recognize that this request comes very late in the term and that the circumstances surrounding it are far from ideal, and once again, I am so truly sorry. I take responsibility and I want to be clear that this is not a situation I take lightly or will ever allow to happen again, particularly given how close I am to finishing my degree. I am actively taking steps to ensure my mental health is better supported, including seeking a new therapist, to ensure I am properly equipped and able to complete my remaining academic requirements.
I cannot emphasize enough how deeply committed I am to completing my degree properly and responsibly. With only one course (3.00 credits) remaining, my only goal is to resolve this situation so that I can move forward, complete my final requirement, and graduate as planned. This experience has been genuinely difficult and humbling but it has sharply reinforced how much finishing my degree means to me, I hope that is made clear here.
With that, I am respectfully requesting your consideration for a late drop. I fully understand the seriousness of this request and the timing, and I am truly sorry for any confusion or inconvenience it may cause. I am also open to any additional guidance or steps you may recommend to help address this situation responsibly, as I am willing to do whatever is required to resolve this.
Thank you very much for considering my request, and I apologize once again for these circumstances. Once again, I truly do not submit this petition lightly, and would be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to correct this record. I am also happy to provide any additional information needed.
Thank you so much again for your time and consideration, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Rylie Tishler
