To the Academic Petitions Committee,
I hope you are doing well, I am writing to request permission to withdraw from HIST 252 Africa in the Modern World and to have it recorded as a no grade (NG) rather than a failed one.
During the Fall 2025 semester I went through a severe mental-health crisis that resulted in hospitalization. After being discharged, with a note from the psychiatrist, I received extensions in my two other classes and was able to complete and pass them. However, due to my condition I was unable to take on the work for my third course, HIST 252.
I care a great deal about my academic progress, and it’s upsetting that I was not able to complete this course. However, I had to prioritise my mental health to properly recover, given the circumstances, to ensure I can return to my studies this semester (winter 2026) in a healthier and more sustainable way.
I’m kindly asking the Committee to consider my situation and allow this late withdrawal without academic penalty. This support would make a significant difference in helping me move forward without the added setback of a failing grade.
