Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

I am petitioning to have my grade switched from a “C” to a “CR standing” in CHEM 222 (Structure Determination). The grade I received in this course was negatively influenced by the strike.

For instance, the grade distribution in the original course syllabus stated that there would be a 40% final exam. However, due to the strike, the 25% midterm (that I wrote) was dropped because they were not marked in time before the teaching assistants went on strike. Therefore, the weight from the midterm assessment was moved to the final exam, which equated to 65%. The strike negatively impacted my learning as I am not a very great test-taker to begin with. Therefore, the increased weighting for the final exam did not work in my favour.

I have put a lot of effort into this course and have received many good grades, but this is not evident in my final mark.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,
Arielle Vennema
