Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally petition my final grade in Sociology 101 , in which I have received a final grade of F. I am requesting a review of this grade, as I believe it does not accurately reflect my academic performance due to administrative and grading errors.

First, I would like to note that I have never previously received a failing grade below a 50% in this course. Upon reviewing my grades, I discovered that my midterm examination was recorded as a grade of 0. However, I did not write the midterm because my academic considerations had not yet been formally put into place at that time. I was explicitly advised by my academic advisor not to write the midterm, and I also informed my professor of this situation. I am able to provide email documentation from both my academic advisor and my correspondence with my professor confirming this.

Second, I received a grade of 0 for tutorial participation, which I believe is incorrect. I only missed two tutorials during the term. These absences were unavoidable, and I am able to provide the specific dates I was unable to attend if required. Receiving a zero for tutorial participation does not accurately reflect my attendance or engagement in the course.

Due to these issues, the incorrect recording of my midterm grade and the tutorial participation grade, I believe my final mark was calculated inaccurately. I am respectfully requesting that my grade be reviewed and corrected to reflect the circumstances outlined above.
