Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
During my first year at Queen's, I was faced with anxiety and depression that I sought help for both on and off campus. As a result of this, I only completed four courses which was the basis of my decision to enroll in a summer course.
My assumption was that by the time it was time to start the course I would be in a position to be able to complete it to the best of my ability. Unfortunately with the start of new medications, and new family problems this became extremely difficult.
I was determined to complete the course but unfortunately realized too late that this would not be in my best interest in regards to my mental health, nor would it be possible for me to do at the time.
I have since adjusted to new medications and have been working through new family situations this summer.
My hope is that when I start my second year, I will finally be able to work to my full potential without my previous struggles making it impossible to maintain a decent standing in my program.
In the future I will be able to focus on my schoolwork having been adjusted to medication that will help me mentally, which is the sole reason for my struggles thus far. I will also be sure to continue seeing doctors and other professionals in order to maintain good mental health, and to prevent any future struggles. I am committed to my studies and look forward to a rewarding experience at Queen's for my second year, and am eager to fulfill my potential both in my academics and extra curriculars.
If there are any questions regarding this appeal please do not hesitate to contact me, and I hope that I was as concise and clear as possible about my prior difficulties. I have also attached a doctor's note, and am able to provide a note from my therapist upon request.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Kate Pereira.
