Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally petition for the deferral of my final examinations, originally scheduled for the Winter 2026 semester, to the semester commencing in September 2026.
This request is necessitated by a sudden and severe medical emergency. In early Jan, 2026, I was diagnosed with a retinal detachment accompanied by a macular hole in my right eye. This condition has resulted in a significant and rapid loss of vision, severely impacting my ability to perform basic academic tasks such as reading, writing, and using digital devices.
My treating ophthalmologist has advised that immediate surgical intervention is critical to prevent permanent vision loss. I am scheduled to undergo a surgery on or around 14th Jan. Following the surgery, I will require an extended recovery period of approximately 3-6 months, during which my visual acuity will be limited, and I must adhere to strict post-operative protocols, including specific head positioning and avoiding strain.
To manage this health crisis without compromising my academic standing, I have already initiated and been granted a formal leave of absence for the Winter semester .However, as this condition arose during the assessment period, I am unable to complete the required examinations as planned.
Therefore, I respectfully request the following accommodations:
1. To defer all my final examinations for the Winter 2026 semester to the semester beginning in September 2026.
2. To allow adequate time for my visual recovery, ensuring I can prepare for and undertake the exams under fair and equitable conditions.
I understand the importance of adhering to academic schedules and assure you that this request is made under exceptional and unavoidable circumstances. My primary goal is to resume my studies with full capability and complete my degree requirements to the best of my ability once my health permits.
Thank you for your understanding and compassionate consideration of my situation. I am available to provide any further information or documentation you may require.
