Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request an extended deferral for my PHYS 242 exam from Fall 2025.

During the course of last term, I was dealing with extenuating circumstances arising from an internal university process. Although the process has concluded, I am still dealing with many of the consequences, and the impact has carried into this new semester. This has made it extremely difficult to focus on the coursework and adequately prepare for this exam.

I have acquired verification from Student Wellness Services through Beicky Heist. However, since this documentation apparently only covers this semester's courses, I have been advised to submit this petition for further deferral of the exam separately.

The impact of this situation has had a truly paralyzing effect on my academics, but an end seems to be near. A deferral of this particular exam would allow me the time and mental space to prepare properly and meet expectations by the end of the term.

Professor Mark Chen has already confirmed that, if approved, he is able and willing to accommodate this request. He has been made aware of every stage of the process during last semester and understands the impact these circumstances have had on my academic performance.
