Petition Letter: Petition for Further Exam Deferral – MATH 112

I am submitting this petition to request approval for a further deferral of my MATH 112 exam, as I am unable to write the deferred exam scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 8:30 AM due to documented extenuating circumstances.

I am registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), and my accommodation plan was updated on January 14, 2026, to include “no morning exams” due to a sleep disorder related to my ADHD medication. This accommodation reflects the significant functional impact that early morning exam start times have on my ability to concentrate and perform.

I was notified of the 8:30 AM start time on January 12. Because this accommodation was added after the deferred exam had already been scheduled, the Exams Office has confirmed that the start time cannot be adjusted for this sitting due to administrative timelines. As a result, the approved accommodation cannot be applied to the January 17 exam.

Given the functional impact of an early morning exam, I am concerned that I will not be able to write the assessment under appropriate conditions if required to proceed as scheduled. For this reason, I am requesting approval for a further exam deferral in accordance with university policy.

Given the timing of the current semester and the need for my approved accommodation to be fully implemented, I am requesting that this further deferral be scheduled for the May deferred exam period, which would allow me to complete the assessment under appropriate conditions while effectively managing my current course load.

I have proactively contacted my course instructor to request their support for this petition, and my QSAS Advisor, Caroline Jesuthasan, is aware of the situation and has updated my official accommodation plan.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
