Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom this letter may concern,

Unfortunately due to a SOLUS system error, I was unable to add any courses during the enrollment period. The system indicated that I required faculty permission for any course, no matter the department, that I tried to enroll in. Which also included courses within my own major (computing), which effectively had locked me out of enrollment for any and all courses.

I acknowledge that had I reached out to any of the parties this matter concerns earlier (i.e. University Registrar, Faculties involved) this situation could have potentially been avoided, and I take responsibility for the unpunctual planning. Ultimately, the issue itself was a technical problem that was out of my control during this period of a high-volume of requests.

If granted permission, I would be strongly appreciative if I'd be able to add PHIL 151 to my weekly schedule. Being enrolled in a full course load is vital for my academic progress, as I've already experienced many academic difficulties last year.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Should my petition be granted, I'm confident that I would be able to achieve academic success in this specific course. I've been seeking guidance from the academic counselors in my program, as well as reaching out to my professors more for assistance and clarity with course material. Relative to last year, I have developed much more as a student and have been making the necessary efforts in order to progress through my program smoothly. This year I primarily focused on retaking any core courses I had not succeeded in prior, in order to fix my academic standing. I've also reflected a lot on my methods of study, and have been encouraging myself to study in more effective manners. For example, I've been focusing on making newer concepts, specifically mathematical ones, more digestible to me through practicing personalized note-taking. Additionally, I've also been encouraging myself to study more with my peers, as oftentimes I'm able to seek guidance outside of my professor's office hours.

From a personal standpoint, I've also been working (at my job) less as a result of restructuring my priorities going forward. I strongly desire to improve my academic performance, so I've made the necessary sacrifices in order to be able to more strongly commit to my studies. Going forward, I also intend to seek assistance through counseling in order to learn how to regulate stress. Due to my fast-paced lifestyle and demaning schedule, I occasionally find myself to be overwhelmed at certain points of the semester, which has likely negatively impacted by performance in assessments and assignments. Thus, I find it imperative I strive for personal improvement outside of the personal optimization of academic practices such as studying.

Overall, I would be extremely appreciative if this petition is granted. Especially because I've made it a personal goal of mine to read more often about subjects unrelated to STEM, such as philosophical and cinematographic studies. Should my petition be granted, I will take the necessary steps in order to guarantee that the consideration is met with outcomes that justify the decision.
