Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dean Lemieux,

I am writing to respectfully petition for consideration to enroll in my final required course, KNPE 449, in order to complete the remaining requirements for graduation.

The basis of my petition is an extenuating academic circumstance beyond my control that arose during the course registration period. Specifically, there was a misunderstanding between my academic advisor and myself regarding my eligibility and the appropriate scheduling for enrollment in this course. As a result of this miscommunication, we weren’t able to find a solution for that would fulfill my degree requirements. By the time this misunderstanding was clarified and we were fully aligned, the add/drop deadline had unfortunately passed, preventing me from registering despite my intention and readiness to do so.

This situation directly affected my academic progression, as KNPE 449 represents my final outstanding requirement for degree completion. Had the misunderstanding not occurred, I would have enrolled within the permitted registration window. While the duration of this issue was brief, its impact has been significant.

Since identifying this issue, I have taken immediate and proactive steps to ensure that enrollment at this stage would not compromise my academic performance or the integrity of the course. I contacted the course professor directly, and we have discussed my situation in detail. Together, we have established a clear academic plan that would allow me to catch up on the first two lectures that were missed and remain fully on track with the course moving forward. The professor is aware of my circumstances and has indicated that, with this plan in place, successful integration into the course is feasible.

In order to ensure that I can fully prioritize and commit the necessary time and attention to KNPE 449, I am also requesting permission to drop CLST 210. CLST 210 is an additional elective and is not required for my degree completion. Dropping this course would allow me to create the appropriate academic space to focus on my final required courses and complete them to the standard expected.

Additionally, there is a perceived scheduling conflict with my 8:30 a.m. NSCI course that contributed to concerns about enrollment. However, this conflict does not reflect the actual structure of that course, as Dr. Dumont does not utilize that scheduled time for teaching and only uses the 4:30 time on Wednesday. As such, there is no true overlap that would interfere with my attendance or participation in KNPE 449.

I have consistently demonstrated strong academic commitment throughout my program and am confident in my ability to complete this final requirement successfully. Enrollment would allow me to graduate as planned and conclude my degree in good standing.

Thank you very much for your time and thoughtful consideration of my petition. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have my request reviewed and would be happy to provide any additional information or documentation if required.

Thank you again,

Jaxen Reid

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I am writing to outline the academic plan I have developed, in consultation with the course instructor, to ensure that I can successfully catch up on the material missed at the beginning of KNPE 449 and remain fully on track for the remainder of the term.

Upon approval of enrollment, I will immediately access and review all materials associated with the first two lectures, including lecture slides, assigned readings, and any available recorded content. During this initial period, I will produce detailed notes to consolidate key concepts and identify any areas requiring clarification.

Within the first several days, I will complete all required and recommended readings linked to the initial lectures and prepare a concise written synthesis of the main themes to ensure a strong foundational understanding of the course content. This will allow me to integrate early material with subsequent topics as the course progresses.

Following this review, I will connect with the course instructor to confirm my understanding of core concepts, ask targeted questions, and ensure alignment with course expectations moving forward. We have already discussed this plan, and the instructor is aware of my circumstances and supportive of my ability to integrate into the course with this structured approach in place.

I will also review all upcoming assessments to ensure that foundational material from the first two lectures is fully incorporated into my preparation and submissions. Any adjustments or additional preparatory work recommended by the instructor will be completed within the established timelines.

For the remainder of the term, I will attend all lectures, actively participate in course activities, and maintain regular review of earlier content to ensure continuity. To support this plan and fully prioritize KNPE 449, I will be dropping CLST 210, an additional elective not required for my degree, thereby allowing sufficient time and focus to meet all academic expectations.

Thank you for considering this academic plan. I am fully committed to completing KNPE 449 successfully and to concluding my degree requirements in good standing. I would be happy to provide any further details if required.

Thanks again,
