Petition Letter
Petition Letter: During the course enrollment period, I was experiencing an extremely difficult and destabilizing time due to serious family circumstances related to events in my home country, Iran. As a result, I needed to remain in Vancouver to support my family and was largely offline during this period. Unfortunately, this prevented me from being able to select my courses or meet the enrollment deadlines. This was an isolated and extraordinary circumstance, and I have since taken steps to stabilize both my personal situation and academic planning.
EMPR 270 is a required course within my program and is essential for maintaining my academic progression. Not completing this course at this stage would cause me to fall significantly behind in my degree requirements and disrupt my graduation timeline. Successfully completing EMPR 270 this semester is therefore a critical part of my academic plan.
I have already contacted the professor for EMPR 270 to express my interest in enrolling, and I am fully committed to catching up on any missed material. As this professor was also my instructor last semester, I am familiar with their teaching style and course expectations, and I am confident that I would have no difficulty reintegrating into the course at this stage.
At present, I am enrolled in only three courses this semester. In order to remain on track academically, it is very important for me to carry a full course load of five courses. I have the time, capacity, and structure in my schedule to successfully manage this workload and remain fully engaged in EMPR 270 through consistent attendance, participation, and timely completion of all assessments.
My plan for academic success is to maintain a manageable and balanced course load, prioritize required courses such as EMPR 270, and proactively seek academic support when necessary. I am confident that under these conditions, I will be able to perform strongly and continue progressing toward my degree without further disruption.
Given the circumstances and my current readiness, I respectfully request consideration to enroll in EMPR 270 this semester so that I may remain on track academically.
Thank you very much for your time and thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Maya Nate

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: The circumstances that affected my academic performance were temporary but severe, stemming from unexpected and distressing family events related to the situation in my home country, Iran. During this period, I was required to remain in Vancouver to support my family and was largely offline, which disrupted my ability to complete academic requirements and meet enrollment deadlines. Since then, I have taken time to stabilize my personal situation and carefully reassess my academic plan moving forward.
My primary academic goal is to remain on track for graduation by completing required foundational courses in a timely manner. Enrolling in EMPR 270 (and ECON 256) this semester is essential, as these courses are prerequisites for future coursework and delaying them would significantly disrupt my degree progression. To support my success, I am intentionally maintaining a manageable course load. At present, I am enrolled in three courses, and with the addition of these required classes, I would have a full but realistic five-course semester that I have the time and capacity to manage effectively.
From an academic standpoint, my plan includes consistent lecture and tutorial attendance, proactive engagement with course material, and early communication with instructors should challenges arise. I have already contacted the professor for EMPR 270, who was also my instructor last semester, and I am confident in my ability to catch up quickly and meet course expectations.
On a personal level, I am actively seeking support to ensure long-term academic stability. I have been connected with the Care Centre and have scheduled an appointment, which will help me maintain structure and support while navigating the ongoing emotional impact of recent events. Moving forward, I plan to remain connected to academic advising and student support services to ensure that any future challenges are addressed early and constructively.
By maintaining a balanced course load, prioritizing required courses, and utilizing available academic and personal support resources, I am confident that I will be able to succeed academically and continue progressing toward my degree without further disruption.
