Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
The extenuating circumstances in this case is that I am next in line on the waiting list when the deadline to add/drop courses elapsed. I had hoped that I would be able to get into the class normally but this was unfortunately not the case. As such, I am requesting to be added to the course via petition. I understand I am requesting to overfill a class, but in my case I do not this is an unreasonable request to make. (1) Up to now, I have already been participating in class and my presence has not caused any disruptions to the class. The room is not being overfilled nor are discussions getting to unwieldy for Professor Paul to manage. Further, (2) I am very active in discussions which is very beneficial in a fourth year seminar class where active participation is crucial to learning and analyzing the course material. So it is the case that my presence elevates the quality of in class discussion rather than get in its way, and I have been keeping up with readings for this class as well. (2) Since there is no TA for this class, overfilling the class by one person will not add any undue workload onto unwilling parties. Professor Paul grades, and has been extremely positive to me joining the class and has been endlessly supportive (3) I would be able to have my efforts up to this point recognized through getting a credit in the class, as I already have been going to classes and doing readings for it. (4) I have had the explicit permission from Professor Paul to both participate in the class while on the wait-list and to join the class properly, even if doing so means the class is overfilled by a single person. Attached is the email Professor Paul sent to me and gave me permission to include in this petition, who I am extremely grateful for in assisting me throughout this process. I understand I do not have

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: In this case, no academic plan is necessary. I am already participating in class successfully and without cause for concern. There is nothing significant that is affecting my ability to participate in this course, unless of course I am not admited into it. In my case, this petition is the academic plan for success! Should my petition be granted, it means I get to do as I already have been doing, which is participate in a class I am enjoying, feel passionate for and have permission from my Professor to participate and be added. Should my petition not be granted means that, while I may still be able to participate in class discussions, I am unable to receive a credit for my efforts and locks me out of being able to formerly participate in assignments.
