Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request a waiver of the petition deadline in order to add ECON 239 for the current term.

I was unable to submit my petition by the January 23 deadline due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control. I returned to campus 3 weeks later than planned and did not have access to key academic systems, including SOLUS and OnQ, during the course add period. In addition, I did not have access to my iPad and laptop, which limited my ability to review course information and complete the enrolment process on time.

My academic planning was also affected by recent program changes. The Economics (Honours) program is no longer open to new students, so there is no clear or updated program map to follow on the page, except economic without honours or applied economics. This created uncertainty regarding course requirements and delayed my final course selection.

As a result, I was unable to access course materials or begin coursework for ECON 239 before the petition deadline. This delay was procedural rather than academic and was not due to a lack of effort or commitment.

Since then, I have taken steps to resolve the issue. I contacted the course instructor, who has confirmed that he has no objection to me joining the class and has shared course materials with me while my enrolment is being addressed.

Adding ECON 239 is important for my academic progression and timely completion of my degree. I respectfully request consideration of this petition to waive the petition deadline.
